Britney Spears says Blackout was one of the easiest and most satisfying albums she's ever made, and that she remains "so proud" of it:

"I felt so much freedom. Working with amazing producers, I got to play. I loved that no one was overthinking things and that I got to say what I liked and didn't like. I knew exactly what I wanted, and I loved so much of what was offered to me.

The album was a kind of battle cry. After years of being meticulous, trying to please my mom and my dad, it was my time to say “F**k you." I quit doing business the way I always had before. I felt an exciting rush making the album. I was able to work in the best studios. It was a wild time.

Unfortunately, when family life is bad, that takes over and makes anything good on the other side feel less good. I mourn how unpleasant things got for me with my family, yet I remain so proud of that album. Many artists have said that it influenced them, and I often hear from fans that it's their favorite."
