Haas F1 Driver Kevin Magnussen Endures Economy Class Travel Nightmare to Brazil

Haas F1 Team's Kevin Magnussen wasn’t at the circuit in Sao Paulo, Brazil, lasat Thursday amid reports of a cancelled flight—though the truth was a little more amusing for the Dane.

“I got to the airport in Mexico, and I didn’t have a ticket,” said Magnussen. “I had the itinerary, as normal, tried to check in… and I wasn’t on the flight. It was full, and there were no other good connections here. I thought I might miss the whole weekend actually as private planes first of all are stupidly expensive, and there were some landing restrictions, it takes days to get the permits. So I thought this might be interesting!”

Magnussen ended up going via Colombian capital of Bogota—“well, the airport is nice”—and traveling economy, with one of the stints a middle seat. After Magnussen’s odyssey, his race on Sunday lasted all of a few hundred meters after tangling with Alex Albon into the Senna S at the start of the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix.
