OpenAI CEO Sam Altman gets married to coder
The photos appear to be screenshots from Altman's private Instagram profile. They show the couple dressed in crisp white button-down shirts and single orchid boutonnieres, standing under a bamboo chuppah in a tropical place.
In one photo, Altman's brother, Jack Altman, the cofounder and executive chair of the software startup Lattice, watches in his officiant role as Sam slips a ring onto Mulherin's left hand.
Another photo shows the couple breaking glass, a traditional feature of Jewish weddings.
The two appear to have opted for an intimate affair — a photo of the ceremony space shows about a dozen people in attendance.
The location and date of the ceremony is unknown. A spokesperson for OpenAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.
Altman has kept his relationship with Mulherin relatively private over the years. The pair live together in San Francisco and made one of their first public appearances last year when the OpenAI CEO brought Mulherin to a White House dinner.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Mulherin, or "Ollie" as Altman calls him, worked at Meta for two years and studied computer science at the University of Melbourne.
The couple appears to have a mutual interest in AI. During his time at the University of Melbourne, Mulherin worked on some AI projects, according to a blog post from the founder of a coding organization Mulherin joined in 2018 after he graduated.
More recently, in an interview with New York Magazine, Altman said that the pair want to have kids soon.
