Japan Sales Charts: Dragon Quest 3 Is an Absolute Monster, PS5 Pro Falls Off
Japan + Dragon Quest = Profit
Japan loves Dragon Quest. The country's obsession with the age-old RPG series has rarely ever waned, and it remains an absolute sales juggernaut across the nation. Indeed, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has sold stupidly well upon its Japanese debut, shifting a colossal 822,000 copies.
We don't know whether you keep up with the Japanese charts these days, but games that manage around an eighth of that total are generally considered to have strong launch periods. Closing in on 1 million retail sales on release is practically unheard of. Again, Japan loves Dragon Quest.
Of course, the PlayStation-related caveat here is that the remake sold way better on Nintendo Switch. 641,000 copies were bought on the evergreen hardware, while 181,000 were sold on PS5.
Meanwhile, the PS5 Pro has effectively fallen off a cliff in its second week on the Japanese market. The supercharged system actually came out swinging in last week's data, moving close to 80,000 units. It's dropped all the way down to 14,000 units this time around, and finds itself in third place.
Of course, post-release sales dips are incredibly common — but there's perhaps an argument that the Pro should have maintained a bit more momentum.

About Robert Ramsey
Robert (or Rob if you're lazy) is an assistant editor of Push Square, and has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he's played 'em all. A little too much, some might say.
